During New Member Orientation, the following items should be reviewed

Contents

Paperwork

  • Make sure application is completed and liability waiver is signed
  • Make sure payment has been received or subscription setup

Laser room

  • Fire extinguisher location
  • Evacuation Plan
  • First aid kit location
  • Turn off lights
  • Put doorstop back
  • Laser - requires training
  • Laser computer (covered in laser training)
  • Resin/FDM printer - requires class
  • Cloud VM - 2 core, 4 GB/core, 64 GB HDD
  • Electronics Prototyping
    • leaded solder - wash hands after use
    • keep uncluttered
  • Trash Can - No Food

Hallway

  • Food trash only in

Wood Shop/Main Room

  • Fire extinguisher
  • Evacuation Plan
  • Shop Vac can be attached to all other tools
  • First aid kit location
  • Blue tape used to label personal items
    • Labeled equipment left out is free for all members to use
    • Materials
      • Unlabeled or labeled "Hacksburg", "NAS", or "Free": free to use, not abuse
      • Labeled with anything else: Do not use
      • Use common sense, labels can fall off or be lost. Better safe than sorry
  • Dust collection only attached to planer and table saw
  • Trash can (no food)
  • Wifi name and password on whiteboard
    • QR code works with Android phones
  • Sink
  • Food toaster only for food, no other materials
  • Vent fan switch location
  • Flammables cabinet
  • Tool cabinet

Storage Room

  • Light switch location
  • Locker can be claimed and used for personal storage
  • Materials on shelves can be used for projects - same label rules apply, use common sense

Metal Shop

  • Mill and Lathe - require class

Building/Space Access

  • If the new member is affiliated with Virginia Tech, they can use their Hokie Passport.
    • Space access can be setup immediately, however, building access can take two business days.
    • For Building Access, email Seth Hambrick (Facilities Operations & Safety Coordinator for the CRC) at seth.hambrick[at]vtcrc[dot]com with the Hokie Passport ID and make sure to note that they need access to Garvin.
  • If new member does not have a Hokie Passport, issue them a CRC card (kept in cash box)
    • Cards are activated already for Garvin Access.
    • Note the card number after the "+" sign as this need to be give to Seth Hambrick.
